West Ham United hope to learn today whether Matthew Upson must undergo Achilles surgery.
The Daily Express says the Hammers have received conflicting medical opinion as to whether England defender Upson needs to go under the knife..
They have booked him in to see specialist Hakan Alfredson, the Swedish surgeon who has treated Thierry Henry and Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen in the past..
If Upson is told surgery can be avoided and the problem managed, he is hoping to rejoin training as soon as possible.
