West Ham United will know by the end of 2010 whether they have any chance of moving to London's Olympic Stadium.
New Hammers owner David Gold remains hopeful the club can take over the venue after the Games in 2012, despite the original bid promising it would continue to host athletics events.
Olympic legacy chief Baroness Ford said: "I am quite confident that we can get to a good decision on the stadium but we must do it this year because it can not be left to just drag on."
