West Ham keeper resets England ambitions

West Ham United goalkeeper Robert Green has rethought his England ambitions.

An injury to Manchester United's Ben Foster has opened the England door to Green, who said: "There is a spot there now, at least until Ben gets his fitness back, and once you're in possession you are in a strong position. When Ben gets back, he could be playing the best football of his life and still not get back so long as I am also playing well.

"It's unfortunate for him that he has been injured and I feel for him because it happened to me as well, so I know what he feels like.

"I was involved in the squad but obviously had fallen down the pecking order. It's all about possession of the number one jersey; you have to be seen to be doing something wrong to be dropped and it's very difficult to get back in.

"It's all about patience. If I play well for West Ham then hopefully England will take care of itself. International football is not something I will lose sleep over and if I never play for England again then that is fine, although it won't be for the want of trying. I'll live whatever happens."
