West Ham keeper Green dedicates wonder save to coach Hitchcock

West Ham United goalkeeper Robert Green dedicated his wonder save during their 3-2 win over Wigan Athletic to new keeper coach Kevin Hitchcock.

With West Ham United already trailing 1-0, England's No1 produced a stupendous piece of athleticism to push James McCarthy's 30-yard drive on to the woodwork on Saturday.

Green told WHUTV that his outstanding save had come as a result of a special training session with goalkeeper coach Hitchcock at Chadwell Heath.

"It was one of those sort of days where you thought that if we'd lost, Hull would have won, but seeing as the results came as they did, it turned it around - Hull lost and essentially, barring a 15 or 20 goal swing, we're above them. We've given ourselves a much better chance of survival than if we hadn't won.

"He's hit it really well but it was really pleasing because it's something I've been working on with Kevin Hitchcock, the goalkeeper coach, in the week, and that's what you do it for. In that respect, it was really pleasing.

"That's what football is all about - trying to improve and carry on, and if you can do that, it's brilliant. When you can help the team, it's a bonus."
