West Ham join battle for Newcastle's Taylor

West Ham United are moving for Newcastle defender Steven Taylor.

The Evening Chronicle says Hammers boss Alan Curbishey has been alerted to the fact the England Under-21 skipper has turned down a new contract at St James's Park.

That was back in October - and while talks have been on-going between the Taylor camp and United, there has been very little progress.

Taylor, however, insists there is only one club he wants to play for, and that is Newcastle United.

And that is despite the fact the only one of the so-called big four of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool who have not been casting eyes in his directions are Arsene Wenger's side.
