West Ham hoping to take on Barcelona in Olympic Stadium opening

West Ham United have Barcelona in mind for their first opponent at their new home ground later this year.

The Hammers will make the move from Upton Park into the Olympic Stadium this summer and are hoping they can lure Spanish giants Barcelona to East London for a pre-season friendly.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham have opened talks with some of the major European clubs regarding a grand opening for the Stratford venue which they will move into following their final home game of the 2015/16 Premier League season on May 7.

Barca are at the top of the list for the Irons who are intent on holding the curtain raiser on August 3, prior to the 2016/17 season, which could see such names as Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar grace the new surface.
