West Ham go for Chelsea winger SWP

West Ham United are planning an ambitious bid for Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips.

The Mirror says Wright-Phillips, 25, will cost in the region of £10million with Chelsea unlikely to recoup the £21m they paid Manchester City two years ago.

The Hammers almost signed Wright-Phillips in January but the winger wanted to fight to stay in Jose Mourinho's plans.

But now the East Enders are confident of landing their man, despite interest from Aston Villa and Spurs, and have eased their wage bill to accommodate his wages by ruthlessly wielding the axe.

Keeper Roy Carroll, skipper Nigel Reo-Coker and a whole host of fringe players have already been told they can leave.
