West Ham forward Carroll confident of making England's World Cup squad

West Ham United forward Andy Carroll has put his hand up for England selection.

The 28-year-old has nine caps for his country, with the last one dating back to 2012.

But given Carroll's aerial prowess, some pundits have called for his inclusion in Gareth Southgate's squad for Russia.

He said: "It would be nice to be in the squad, it is nice to be spoken about in that way.

"All I have got to do is work hard and hopefully get the call but, at the minute, I am focused on getting fully fit here, scoring goals, and getting good results. If I deserve it, hopefully I will get the call."

Asked if he can be a force at international level, Carroll added: "Definitely. I am confident of what I can do and it is different to what they have got at the minute. I am fully confident of my ability."
