West Ham are favourites to land former Newcastle United full back Stephen Carr on a free transfer.
The 31-year-old Republic of Ireland international was deemed surplus to requirements by Kevin Keegan at St James' Park and released in the summer after a season marred by injuries.
The full back, who has 41 international caps, was regarded as one of the top full backs in the Premier League during his time at Spurs, but injuries over the last two seasons on Tyneside have seen him drop down the pecking order.
Carr is looking for a return to the capital and the fact that he is available on a free transfer is likely to interest West Ham, as they look for cover for club captain Lucas Neill.
