West Ham encourage Newcastle to buy back Carroll

West Ham United are keen to send Andy Carroll back to Newcastle United.

The Journal says Carroll is nearing a return with the Hammers but his injury problems seem to have sparked fears at the East London outfit that they need to plan for life without him.

And the club believe that Newcastle would consider Carroll in January as they ponder options for the future.

United discussed the long-standing possibility of re-signing their former number nine again in the summer but it never got beyond that - and Carroll has always maintained that he's happy with life in London.

But this January a move may suit all parties, with Carroll desperate for a front-line role to boost his England hopes, Newcastle desperate for a striker and West Ham apparently ready to off-load the forward.
