West Ham United defender James Tomkins is delighted with his late call up to the England U21 squad.
Tomkins was named as a replacement for injured Manchester City defender Micah Richards.
"It is always a great honour to be called up for your country," Tomkins, who was part of the England squad at the 2009 tournament, told whufc.com. "I had no hesitation in joining up. It is a great tournament, with top teams and players involved."
The 22-year-old will be competing for a place with Chris Smalling, Michael Mancienne and Phil Jones - underlining the strength in Pearce's selection.
"I hope I can play and the team are looking to go one step further than two years ago when we reached the final. I want to play a part in helping the team do that."
