West Ham defender Reid eager for New Zealand return

West Ham United defender Winston Reid admits he cannot wait to return to his homeland of New Zealand later this year.

The Hammers have been confirmed as a starter in the Football United Tour NZ 2014 alongside fellow Premier League side Newcastle United and A-League clubs Wellington Phoenix and Sydney FC for a series of matches in July.

Auckland-born Reid, who captains the All Whites, is excited about heading back to New Zealand to give his east London club a real taste of what life is like down under.

"I'm really excited to be bringing West Ham to New Zealand in July to play a bit of footy in the Football United Tour and show them how we do things in New Zealand!," Reid said.

"New Zealand is a beautiful country full of great people and I'm sure all the West Ham players, staff and supporters who make the trip will have a fantastic time.

"Football is really on the up in both New Zealand and Australia and we are all looking forward to meeting all the fans and playing exciting matches against two leading Hyundai A-League clubs."

West Ham take on Wellington in Auckland at Eden Park on July 23 before they meet Sydney in Wellington at Westpac Stadium three days later.

The Football United Tour 2014 also has Newcastle playing Sydney on July 22 in Dunedin and the Phoenix meeting the Magpies on July 26, also in Wellington.
