West Ham United co-chairman David Gold is proud of the success of Birmingham City this season.

Brum have defied their critics with an impressive return to the Premiership.

Gold told the Birmingham Mail: "David Sullivan and I, we're both very proud of not only the squad but the management structure. They have done brilliantly. The run Birmingham have had has been absolutely fantastic.

"Sadly, I don't remember many experiences like that during our 16 years at the club. But that's what sometimes it takes. It takes all that time to build a squad, an infrastructure and everything.

"I hope that Birmingham get into Europe. I have always wished them well, apart from the other night - the brown paper bag did the job!"
