West Ham United co-chairman David Gold stands by their contract pay-off to Calum Davenport.
The defender was handed his pay-out last week after recovering from an alleged stabbing attack.
Gold said: "This shows we are a club that honours contracts to the letter.
"It's terribly sad that this has happened to the lad but occasionally life can throw such stuff at you and its horrible.
"This decision wipes the slate clean and allows him to get on with his life again and everybody at the club wishes him well."
