West Ham United have a deal in place with Colin Kazim-Richards.
The London Evening Standard says the East London club have also taken former Sheffield United striker Kazim-Richards on loan from Turkish club Fenerbahce.
Born in Leytonstone, Kazim-Richards moved to Fenerbahce from Sheffield United in 2007 and enjoyed a successful spell there before going on loan, first to fellow Turkish club Galatasaray and then Greek club Olympiakos last season.
Kazim-Richards has been training at West Ham this week and could figure in the weekend friendly at Southend.
