West Ham close in on Blackburn's McCarthy

West Ham United have agreed a £2.25million fee with Blackburn Rovers for South African striker Benni McCarthy, according to player's representatives. The Hammers have been in the hunt for striking reinforcements since David Gold and David Sullivan completed their takeover of the club last week.

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce confirmed on Monday that the club has received a written offer from the Hammers, and it now understood that a fee has been agreed.
