West Ham chief Sullivan: We went for 30 players this season

West Ham United chief David Sullivan says no-one can question their ambition after bouncing back into the Premier League.

The Hammers beat Blackpool yesterday to return to the top flight.

Sullivan said: "Everyone knows we approached Manchester City three times for Carlos Tevez on loan in January.

"And we also went for Fernando Torres but were turned down.

"We also tried for Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea, which again I thought we could have done. I know he has made a couple of cameo roles for Chelsea but he needs games. I'm surprised they didn't loan him out to us.

"In fact, we tried to buy about THIRTY players in January!

"We tried to buy Peter Whittingham at Cardiff. It's public knowledge we tried to sign Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield, but they wouldn't sell him."
