West Ham chief Sullivan: Allardyce best England option

West Ham chief David Sullivan says Sam Allardyce would be the right appointment for England.

Allardyce has left Sunderland's pre-season training camp and is waiting to discover whether he will be chosen ahead of other reported targets Eddie Howe, Steve Bruce and Jurgen Klinsmann.

Sullivan sacked Allardyce at West Ham in 2015 immediately after he led the Hammers to a 12th place Premier League but still believes the Black Cats boss is capable of turning England's fortunes around.

"Sam would do a good job managing England," Sullivan told the Mirror.

"He would sort them out. It has always been his dream. They could do a lot worse.

"He is a good judge of players and gets he best out of them.

"It would be a massive blow for Sunderland, but I think you would have someone who really wants the job."
