West Ham chief Gold says they'll be active in January market

West Ham United co-chairman David Gold says they'll be active in the January market.

The Hammers have slipped out of the back four in the past week.

Gold, speaking in the West Ham match programme, said: "To have 31 points before Christmas is just a great feeling and I am hugely optimistic that European football of one kind or another is well within our sights. We have played some fantastic football this season.

"A major contributor to our position in the league is that all nine of our summer signings met our expectations and in some cases exceeded them - something that rarely happens in football.

"Looking ahead, I am optimistic that 2015 will be even better as we can enjoy a run that will determine how high up the table we will finish, rather than how low down.

"I anticipate further strengthening of the squad next summer and then in August, it is the start of our final season at the Boleyn Ground."
