West Ham chief Gold gushes over summer signing Valencia

West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has heaped praise on summer signing Enner Valencia ahead of the weekend's return to Premier League action.

The Hammers signed the 24-year old Ecuadorian striker from Mexican club Pachuca for around £12million in late July after an impressive World Cup and so far he has impressed the chief of the east London club.

Gold spoke highly of Valencia, who netted three goals at Brazil 2014, and suggests he will be a real handful for defenders in England's top flight this season.

"This guy is a truly exciting footballer - he has electric pace and will worry any defence in the Premier League," said Gold.

"We expect him to have a real impact for us but because he has such tremendous pace don't expect him to be running all over the pitch for 90 minutes. He conserves his pace and energy for those electric runs which are fully capable of changing games."

Valencia, who has come off the bench twice for his new club this term, will be in action when the 11th-placed Hammers meet ninth-placed Hull City at the KC Stadium on Monday night.
