West Ham United captain Kevin Nolan believes manager Sam Allardyce is delighted with his current squad.
Allardyce has admitted this summer has been his "quietest" in memory.
Nolan told the London Evening Standard: "I think the gaffer's very pleased, perhaps even a little surprised, at the shape the players were in when they reported back. The summer after we had been promoted was hectic with a massive turnaround in numbers. Considering everything, last season's 10th-place finish was fantastic but, without wishing to appear arrogant in any way, it was what we were aiming for and ultimately what we deserved.
"A year on and we believe the quality of the squad has risen a few notches. It's going to be tough but if we steer clear of injuries, it could be another very good season for us. Big Sam has everything in place now. He can tinker with the squad - bring a few in - but all the time he is increasing the quality."
