West Ham boss Grant intent on keeping Upson

West Ham United manager Avram Grant is intent on keeping key defender Matthew Upson at the club.

The 31-year old centre-half has been heavily linked with a move to Sunderland in recent weeks but Grant is determined to retain him at Upton Park and wants the England international to show his loyalty to the club.

"The fans deserve players who want to play for the club. I only want players who want to play because I think we will have a great future," Grant said.

"But I think any club, especially a club like West Ham, needs to do everything to keep a player like Upson. He's a good player and person and we will do everything to keep him."
