West Ham United boss Avram Grant accepts he could lose defensive coach Wally Downes to Newcastle United.
The Journal says Downes is an option for the Newcastle assistant manager's job and despite him having only recently joined from West Ham, Grant said yesterday he would not stand in the way of the former Reading coach if an approach came from St James' Park.
"I like Wally Downes and have built a very good relationship in a short time but I cannot answer for him," he said.
"He is here, he is happy and we are happy with him (but) I've never stopped anyone (from leaving) in my life. There is a contract between him and the club but I must say we are happy with him and he is happy with us."
