West Ham boss Slaven Bilic admits he tried to sign Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe in January.
The Hammers meet with Sunderland this weekend.
West Ham tried to buy him in January but the Black Cats refused.
Bilic said: “We pushed, we tried but as soon as they said no that was it."
