West Ham boss Allardyce: Right time for Fergie to release book

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce says it was the right time for Sir Alex Ferguson to release his autobiography.

Allardyce wrote in the London Evening Standard: "If you're going to put it all down on paper, you might as well tell the whole truth and that is exactly what Sir Alex Ferguson appears to have done in his autobiography.

"So far I've only read the extracts in the papers but I'm hoping Sir Alex will send me a copy - especially after leaving me out of it! Apparently I did appear in a section but it was omitted from the book. Sir Alex rang me to apologise but I told him not to be silly - the book is probably all the better for not having me in it.

"There is no doubt the book will be immensely popular and an absorbing read. I don't get the time to sit down with a book that often but I will certainly be reading this one.

"It is a unique chronicle of just how he managed Manchester United for so long. He knew he had to be strong but there were obviously difficult times when it became a real challenge to deal with certain characters.

"Now is the right time for a book of this sort. If you want to tell the truth you need to do it when you're finished otherwise you have to hold a few things back.

"We have seen a snapshot of what is in Sir Alex's book but I'm hoping that, apart from the controversial stuff highlighted so far, there will be some really great chapters about, for example, the build-up to winning the Treble."
