West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce has revealed how visibly excited Jose Mourinho was when Chelsea clinched Cesc Fabregas' signing. Mourinho and Allardyce worked together over the summer for Soccer Aid when the news came through.
"I remember Jose punching the air at Soccer Aid while we were training before we played that game. I didn't know what it was until after, when he told me he had just clinched it [the signing of Fabregas]. That's how excited he was and what a big signing had finally come off.
"Jose had obviously met him before that and Cesc was pondering his decision as to whether to join Chelsea, so I could see how delighted he was to clinch that signing. They obviously had to do a lot of work, when you consider the affection he said he had for Arsenal, and they managed to overcome that.
"It's paid off for both. There are only a few players of that high a quality and calibre available on the market today and that was one they clinched, so he has done very, very well in assists and scored a couple of vital goals."
