West Ham boss Allardyce happy to welcome new signing Petric

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce is happy with their deal for Mladen Petric after failing to land a striker on deadline day.

Big Sam explained in the London Evening Standard: "We had an opportunity to loan a player - either Demba Ba or Romelu Lukaku - just before the day but unfortunately it didn't happen.

"We also had the possibility of one or two players to go out but in the end we never reached an agreement with which we were comfortable.

"Despite the setback, though, we have managed to sign Mladen Petric. He has experience of the Premier League with Fulham which is important but he's short of full fitness at the moment.

"Those who want him in the squad for Sunday should remember we began pre-season training on July 1 to prepare for the first game on August 17."
