West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce admits frustration being turned down by Everton defender Johnny Heitinga.

Allardyce wrote in the London Evening News: "I spent three hours with him on Wednesday and everything seemed fine and rosy. For whatever reason, though, by yesterday morning he had changed his mind.

"I suspect a better offer had come his way but I can't be sure of that. Anyway, the reality is that the deal is dead.

"That's invariably the problem when things are made public."
