West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce says Andy Carroll is now in the £70 million class.
Carroll returns to Anfield for the first time since Liverpool decided he was not a £35m player after all.
And West Ham manager said: "There are a few of his type and capabilities today.
"Kenny Dalglish saw him as wanting to lead the line with Luis Suarez.
"Because he never had a long time to establish himself and a new manager came in with a different philosophy then he leaves.
"So at the time everyone said, '£35million - wow, what is going on' - it is a drop in the ocean now.
"Two years later, £35m won't even get you a top-quality striker and you have to go to the £50, £60, £70, £100m bracket.
"What did Barca play for Suarez? £80m? At the time people think that was over-priced but when you are giving them a five or six-year contract and if two or three years down the line they are developing as good as you expect then everyone talks about it as a bargain; '£35million for Andy Carroll - what a bargain and we would pay £60m or £70m for him now'."
