West Brom's Robinson determined to avoid suspension

West Brom fullback Paul Robinson is determined to reign in 'Mad Dog' image.

Robinson, who recently signed a new three-year contract, said: "Something I am really focusing on this year is staying on the pitch and helping my team-mates and avoiding suspensions because I got a couple of red cards last season.

"The red and yellow cards don't help the cause and so it is something I want to improve. Yes, there are times when I'm going to get the odd card because I'm a defender.

"My job is to win the ball and make tackles and everyone knows that I am a competitor. That is my job. However, hard you try, there will be mistimed challenges from time to time.

"That is especially the case in this league where the players are so quick.

"You think you are going to get the ball but they just nick it away and you end up picking up cards a lot of the time."

Robinson claimed: "In the Championship, I did feel that referees looked out for me and there were times I got cards that I felt were unfair.

"Perhaps I'm wrong but it's something I have to try and deal with, to not give referees the opportunity to book me."
