West Brom youngster Wood determined to get NZ start

West Brom teenager Chris Wood may start in New Zealand's World Cup qualifying play-off against Bahrain on Saturday and if he does he well be will up for it.

Reports emanating from New Zealand suggest that the 17-year old may replace Celtic striker Chris Killen in the All Whites' starting line-up in Wellington and if that occur, Wood is keen to back up his solid performance when he came off the bench in the first leg last month.

"I had a good performance over there," Wood said on Wednesday, according to the New Zealand Herald.

"I hope that gives Ricki Herbert something to think about. I have been playing well for my club."

Despite his tender years, Wood is confident he can mix it with the best because he believes in his ability.

"I don't feel like I'm 17. More like 25, for what I have achieved in my short career," he added.

"If you have the ability, I have no doubt you should be out there."
