West Brom winger Phillips, Crystal Palace midfielder McArthur out of Scotland squad

The Scottish FA have announced that three players have been withdrawn from Gordon Strachan's Scotland squad for upcoming internationals.

West Bromwich Albion winger Matt Phillips, Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur and Newcastle United defender Grant Hanley are all out of calculations ahead of the friendly with Canada at Easter Road on Wednesday and the World Cup qualifier against Slovenia at Hampden Park on Sunday.

Phillips missed West Brom's 3-1 win over Arsenal with a hamstring strain while Baggies teammate James Morrison is in doubt for the first game with an ankle problem.

Albion boss Tony Pulis said: "Phillips won't be going away with Scotland.

"Morrison will go. He won't be fit for the first game but there is a chance he could be fit for the second game, which is the big one."

Palace's McArthur missed the weekend's win over Watford while Hanley is sidelined despite playing for the Magpies against Brighton & Hove Albion.

England-born Leeds United defender Liam Cooper has received his first Scotland call-up as a replacement for the injured Hanley.
