"I'd like to think we're not too far away from being a top half of the table team in the Premier League every season, not a team that scrambles to try to stay out of the bottom three," he told the Express and Star.
"I have felt it. We went to Goodison Park and were more than comfortable in the game, against a team that is sixth in the league.
"We have felt in the football match, ultimately if we'd had the centre-forwards to stick the chances in and the centre-halves who feel as comfortable as most centre-halves feel in the Premier League, then we would have a pretty good team.
"But, at this moment, we haven't got all the pieces of the jigsaw. There are such fine lines between success and failure in this league.
"That's not meant to be in any way comical, because we're at the bottom of the league and moving down."
