West Brom, Stoke target Defoe wants Newcastle move

West Bromwich Albion are chasing Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe.

The People says West Brom will throw Defoe a lifeline if he is jettisoned by Tottenham on deadline day - although Defoe hopes Newcastle United will revive their interest.

Baggies boss, Steve Clarke is keen on Defoe, who is desperate for first team football in a World Cup year.

Stoke City are also interested in the striker, but Defoe hopes Newcastle come back in for him before the window closes - although Toon are unlikely to match Tottenham's £6million valuation, or his £65,000-a-week wages.
