Eye-catching performances for the New Zealand under-17 side has landed Chris Wood an academy place at West Bromwich Albion.

Heslop will join the Aston Villa academy in Birmingham while West Brom has invited Wood to join its youth set-up.

Wood also trialled with Everton before withdrawing from a trial at Millwall after the Championship outfit firmed interest in the young striker.

His father, Grant, said his son was thrilled with the chance to follow his dream of being a professional footballer.
