West Brom signing McManaman: Koumas, Ridgewell convinced me

Callum McManaman admits Jason Koumas had a big influence on his decision to join West Bromwich Albion.

The former Wigan Athletic winger completed his move to the Hawthorns yesterday.

McManaman also spoke with former Albion men Scott Carson, Liam Ridgewell and Marc-Antoine Fortune to ensure he was making the right move.

"I spoke to a few of the lads: Scott, Liam and Marco only had good things to say. I know Leon (Barnett) was here too, although I didn't speak to him on the move.

"Another person I spoke to was Jason Koumas.

"He said some really nice things about the club - said he loved his time here, loved the fans. He really encouraged me to go for it and said it would be a good move for me.

"We go back a long way from when he was at Wigan about eight years ago. I know he's highly thought of down here by the fans so those comments meant a lot."

Koumas spent five years at Albion between 2002 and 2007, scoring 23 times in 123 appearances.
