West Bromwich Albion defender Gabriel Tamas has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association for elbowing an opponent yesterday.
The 27-year old Romanian appeared to make heavy contact with Norwich City's James Vaughan late in the Baggies' 1-0 win at Carrow Road, leaving the former Everton man with a bloodied mouth but receiving no punishment from referee Mark Halsey.
But the Tamas incident has not gone unnoticed by the FA who today charged him and have given him until 6pm tomorrow to appeal otherwise he will have to accept a three-match ban.
But West Brom boss Roy Hodgson feels his player will get off the charge as it was an unintentional act.
"It was an unintentional elbow. I looked at it on the TV afterwards because it was very contentious at the time," he told Express & Star.
"It's an unfortunate elbow and it doesn't make it any happier for James Vaughan whether it's intentional or accidental.
"It's still a painful blow. As Tamas turned, he caught him with his elbow but I'm 100 per cent convinced it was unintentional."
