Two second half goals were enough for Fulham to defeat bottom of the table West Brom 2-0 at Craven Cottage. Bobby Zamora and Andy Johnson did the damage although Albion got off lightly considering the home side hit the woodwork four times and generally dominated throughout.
Roman Bednar then missed an injury-time penalty for the visitors to compound a miserable day in the capital for the Baggies.
Danny Murphy told Sky Sports: "After a bit of a run around at Old Trafford the other night it was nice to get three points on the board.
"It gives us now a nine, 10-point cushion from the bottom three and we can look upwards rather than downwards."
Fulham boss Roy Hodgson added: "Until we pass that magical 40 (point) mark we won't even contemplate that things are looking easier.
"If we get past that mark we can start raising our heads a little bit and hoping for the higher places in the league."
West Brom manager Tony Mowbray said: "They thoroughly deserved to win.
"We rode our luck right from the start. We were better second half but lost goals through poor defending."
