West Brom prepared to revisit Mel backroom demands in summer

West Bromwich Albion are prepared to hire Pepe Mel's backroom staff - next season.

The Daily Mail says Mel wanted to bring his No 2 Roberto Rios and fitness guru David Gomez to the Hawthorns but club owner Jeremy Peace is happy with the current situation.

Caretaker boss Keith Downing will be retained, as will goalkeeping coach Dean Kiely. If Mel is successful and continues into next season, the situation will be reviewed and it is likely he will be allowed to bolster his resources with his own choice of helpers.

Mel said: "From May, I hope that Roberto and David can join me. West Brom want a Spanish model coach and I hope to show them that they were not wrong. As a player I wasn't good enough to come to England, now I want to earn that right as a coach."
