West Brom prepare approach for St Johnstone boss McInnes

West Bromwich Albion are planning an approach for St Johnstone boss Derek McInnes.

The Scottish Sun says the Premier League strugglers are ready to ask for permission from Saints to speak to the former Hawthorns skipper.

McInnes is still a huge favourite with Baggies fans and has emerged as the clear favourite to succeed Roberto Di Matteo, who was relieved of his duties on Sunday.

The Saints chief said: "If an offer ever came for me then it would be my chairman who would have to deal with it first.

"I've been in this position before though with jobs, so I'm always very sceptical about paying too much attention."
