Keith Downing is being linked with the top job at West Bromwich Albion.
The Baggies assistant coach proved a hugely popular figure when handed the reins on a temporary basis last season following the sacking of Steve Clarke.
Under Downing, 48, West Brom lost only once in five games before the club appointed Spaniard Pepe Mel in January.
Now, after the Baggies severed ties with the ex-Real Betis boss who endured a miserable five months in charge, Downing is in the frame to get the job full-time, says the Daily Star Sunday.
