West Bromwich Albion have avoided a pay-out from Roberto di Matteo's dismissal.

The Mirror says Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace has put Di Matteo on gardening leave on full pay to avoid a bumper pay-off now.

Roy Hodgson was named new manager on Friday.

Peace said: "We believe Roy's vast experience and knowledge of the game is exactly what we need for the challenge we face both in the short and long-term."
