West Brom No2 Venus insists no panic emerging

West Brom assistant boss Mark Venus insists no-one is panicking after they dropped into the relegation zone last week.

"I think we are holding our own in the Premier League," he said. "Anyone who has been to see our games will have seen we have given as good as we have got.

"Overall the performance level in the league has been fine and the opposition know they are getting a game when we are involved. What has been a disappointment is that we have been giving away goals at set-pieces.

"We are still working hard to get every department of the team operating to the best of their ability in every game."

West Brom have so far lost their two encounters against 'Big Four teams', 1-0 at Arsenal on the opening day of the season and then 4-0 at Manchester United last month.

They face an equally tough task when they head to Liverpool tomorrow to face the league's second-placed team who lost their first league match of the season last weekend.

"On Saturday we will be meeting a top-four team on the crest of a wave. They may have had a disappointing result against Tottenham but they are doing well," added Venus. "They have a lot of belief in themselves that they can get into the top two. Who says they can't?

"They have spent a lot of money on the team. They have a decent balance and for West Brom it is a great game for the players.

"Obviously Liverpool will be looking to get back on the winning track after their Spurs defeat but for me it is a great challenge for the players. They have come up from the Championship and are still learning about the Premier League. it is great for them to come up against these players on the big grounds. As a coach I am really looking forward to the match. Having played both Arsenal and Manchester United already you can feel the quality of those teams.

"You can see their strikers have that quality which makes a difference to the team. They do not need two or three chances. Generally, they need one chance and the ball is in the back of the net."
