West Brom news: Sam Field admits loan frustration; ex-Wolves boss backs Pulis

West Brom midfielder Sam Field admits he expected to leave on-loan last summer.

Field ended up staying at the Hawthorns as the deadline fell.

He recalled to the Express & Star: "It was getting to the last minute in September. It is difficult to get your head around, obviously nothing came of it in the end.

“But it is something you have to be very aware of, your phone has to be on. You can go absolutely anywhere. You have to be on red alert.

“It's part and parcel of football now, players move clubs all the time, it's something you've got to get used to.

“I've seen Kane (Wilson) go to Exeter last minute, he's still only 17, that's a big ask for a 17-year-old lad. We'll see in January what happens (to me). "

Meanwhile, ex-Wolves boss Dean Saunders insists Tony Pulis is right man in charge at Albion.

Pulis is under pressure to hold onto his job during international week.

But Saunders says: “When he took the job they were in a right mess.

“If he'd have walked on a pitch with a microphone and said: 'Who cares how we play as long as I keep you up,' everybody would have put their hand up.

“I think everybody would have said, just keep us up.

“But what happens then is the expectation levels go up and up and up.

“And obviously supporters want to see silky football.

“He hasn't got the players to play silky football out from the back.

“But they've just hit a bad run and lost a lot of confidence."
