West Brom manager Hodgson: I tried to sign Arsenal striker Vela for Fulham

West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson admits he tried to sign on-loan Arsenal striker Carlos Vela for Fulham.

The Mexican is already off the mark at the Baggies.

"We considered him when I was at Fulham, in January last year," Hodgson told the WBA website. "Arsene Wenger and I spoke and he said that he might consider him going out on loan.

"I told Arsene that should he become available, I would be interested, but Carlos got injured and didn't go anywhere.

"We had studied Carlos and thought he would have been a good addition had he not got injured."
