West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson believes Ben Foster is good enough to be England's number one.
The 29-year old goalkeeper, on loan from Birmingham City, has been ever-present for the Baggies this season and his form is such that Hodgson has challenged him to come out of his self-imposed international retirement to go up against Manchester City's Joe Hart for the Three Lions gloves .
"On a realistic note the way Ben's played he's got to be a major candidate for one of the three positions with England but then he's got to be persuaded to come out of retirement.
"I would like to think that a player of his ability, age and enthusiasm will come out of retirement.
"He's only 29. Both he and Hart are young men in goalkeeping terms because we see other great goalkeepers in Brad Friedel, Mark Schwarzer and Shay Given, to name three, who are approaching 40. So Ben is still young.""Hart has established himself as No.1 and rightly so but the way Ben has been playing lately then, obviously as a party to it, I'm going to back my man," Hodgson told the Birmingham Mail.
