West Bromwich Albion have pulled back from plans to move for Derby County boss Steve McClaren.
The Birmingham Mail says Albion did consider making an official approach for Derby boss McClaren, but were told they would be wasting their time - the ex-England boss is very much tied into the project at the iPro Stadium.
Dick Advocaat has been linked with the job but the 66-year-old would require some convincing to be swayed by the Albion vacancy.
Keith Downing, currently No2, has expressed an interest in the job and is expected to be among those spoken to next week when Albion begin the interviewing process. The club have yet to decide on others who might, at this stage, be in the frame.
