West Brom hero Moore: Arsenal striker Vela can be new Richardson

West Bromwich Albion hero Darren Moore believes Carlos Vela can repeat the heroics of Kieran Richardson in their last Great Escape.

Sunderland midfielder Richardson, then of Manchester United, arrived on-loan in 2004/05 and helped the Baggies beat the drop.

"Although he's a totally different player, he's got the potential to have a similar impact to Kieran," Moore told the Sunday Mercury of on-loan Arsenal striker Vela.

"Kieran played a much deeper role, and was like a box-to-box player whereas Carlos has been brought in to get the goals. Kieran had the energy, the pace and the athleticism to break from midfield and get into the box.

"He could really hurt teams with his pace and ability.

"In training, he had a great desire, a great belief. He just wanted to come and win games and play football.

"He was a massive impact player for us at the time and I think Carlos could do the same. I believe if the chances fall to him he will put them away.

"Arsene Wenger very rarely gets it wrong with young players and Carlos is no exception. He's a really good player and with a run of games I'm confident he will be a good signing.

"They rate him very highly at Arsenal and they say he's one of the best finishers at the club.

"He's a natural finisher which will help Albion."
