West Brom have failed with a record bid for Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson.
The Daily Mail says West Brom have seen a bid of £18m rejected for Middlesbrough centre-half Gibson.
In what would be a final fee of £21m, including add-ons, Boro have stood firm, despite dropping down into the Championship this past season.
Gibson, a local product and the nephew of Boro owner Steve, was an ever present last season and impressed, despite the Riversiders' demise.
The bid rejected would have been a club record fee for Albion on one player, surpassing the money they paid for Nacer Chadli from Tottenham last summer.
