West Brom chief Burton urges fans to get behind Irvine

West Bromwich Albion chief Terry Burton has urged fans to get behind new manager Alan Irvine.

Burton sat alongside Irvine at the new manager's presentation media conference yesterday.

"You have to ignore perceptions," said Burton.

"Look at the list of people who don't survive in the game. Do I employ someone for what I don't know or employ someone for what I do know?

"This guy is a coach and can go out there and deliver on a training ground.

"We all see a guy on the touchline and that's all. But what does he do on a Monday to Friday? Does he sit in his office, with his feet on the table, a cigar on and go home at 1pm?

"We know this guy will work hard to make our team better, make the individuals better. He will be the first in every morning, last out every night."
